The Agentic Systems Architect is responsible for the design, evolution, and governance of intelligent, agent based systems that enable autonomous and semiautonomous workflows across the organization. This role defines architectural patterns, ensures scalability and reliability, and partners closely with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to deliver safe, effective agentic solutions aligned with organizational strategy.

Position Information: This is a regular, full-time position, reporting to the Senior Director or Engineering
Compensation: Base pay is anticipated to be between $153,415 and $200,000 per year. Eligible employees may also receive incentive/commission/annual bonus pay based on individual and/or company performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, individual skills, experience, training, education/certifications, geographic location, internal equity, and local market conditions.
Location: In this US-based position your location will be remote.
Travel: You can also expect up to approximately 25% travel, so be sure you have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance and a clean driving record for at least the preceding 39 months.

Envision Your Experience.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Designs and evolves a plugin-based architecture (leveraging standards like the Agents, Skills, Hooks and Model Context Protocol / MCP) to extend Claude Code, enabling the AI to securely interface with our internal SDLC toolchains and proprietary data.
- Develops and optimizes production AI applications through effective prompt engineering, context management, and tool‑use patterns.
- Develops highly reliable 'tool-use' patterns and context-hydration strategies, ensuring Claude Code has the precise system access and context required to execute SDLC tasks (requirements analysis, code generation, debugging) autonomously.
- Designs and delivers AI systems that comply with applicable data privacy and regulatory requirements, including FERPA and COPPA, within regulated EdTech environments.
- Designs developer‑focused tooling with a strong emphasis on usability, adoption, onboarding, documentation, and continuous feedback loops.
- Applies a security-first approach to local and remote agent execution, implementing robust sandboxing, strict permission scopes, and secure authentication flows for CLI-based AI tools to prevent destructive actions or data leakage.
- Drives the governance strategy for our AI SDLC platform, defining how plugins are evaluated, versioned, approved, and monitored to prevent unauthorized system changes or degradation of engineering quality.
- Leads estimation, scoping, and planning activities for AI/ML initiatives, partnering with executive and senior stakeholders to prioritize and deliver strategic platform milestones.
- Leads continuous improvement across system architecture, engineering quality, and AI model integration through hands‑on leadership and a focus on measurable outcomes.
- Travel required up to 25%.

Share Your Expertise.
Experience, education, and qualifications essential for success in this role, include:
- 8 years of experience as a Lead Software Engineer, Platform Architect, or AI Engineering Lead with a Bachelor’s degree or 6+ years with a Master’s degree or 5+ years with a PhD.
- Proven experience building AI-enabled developer tooling, function-calling (tool-use) pipelines, or extensible agentic platforms in production. Familiarity with emerging standards like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a major plus. Strong background in architecting modular, extensible platforms and scalable system designs.
- Proficiency in TypeScript/Node.js and/or Python, with deep expertise in designing modular APIs, SDKs, or CLI-based tools. Strong understanding of REST, GraphQL, and event-driven architectures. Practical experience with prompt engineering, context management, and production AI application patterns; familiarity with RAG or embedding‑based retrieval preferred.
- Working knowledge of data privacy and compliance requirements in regulated environments, including FERPA and COPPA.
- Deep understanding of secure system design, specifically concerning authentication flows (OAuth, token management for toolchains), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and mitigating AI vulnerabilities like insecure tool execution or prompt injection.
- Intimate knowledge of the modern Software Development Lifecycle and practical experience integrating with core DevOps and project management toolchains (e.g., GitHub, Confluence, Jira, CI/CD pipelines).
- Experience estimating, scoping, and delivering AI/ML initiatives within Agile delivery models and SDLC best practices.
